The exhibition STAN ZŁOŻENIA is the first such comprehensive, cross-cutting presentation of contemporary collage – a visual art form that engages in a constant dialogue with the world, its images, artefacts and other cultural texts. It reflects the complexity of our reality, situated in late capitalism, on the brink of a climate catastrophe, and in the shadow of growing social radicalisation. This medium becomes a counter-argument to the status quo, and at times – a vision of the future. The technique of collage is the materialisation of the specificity of the contemporary gaze, which is constantly constructed from fragments of reality. Images, stimuli and events flow in the torrential stream of everyday life. It has long since ceased to be possible to tame it. Identities, opinions, dreams, fears and trembling dreams are pieced together from fragments. STAN ZŁOŻENIA comprises intimate stories, the voices of minorities, an exploration of social tensions, the imprints of war, tales of illness, fantasies of utopia, and an affirmation of everyday tenderness. From paper collage, through assemblages, to sculptural objects, this diversity is also reflected in the range of expressive means within the collage technique.
