She sees him through the window of the café ‘Jungle bar’. He is drinking coffee from a beautiful porcelain cup. And she walks by with hers, which is…. broken and somehow so hopelessly cobbled together. Need it be said that the woman is a thief of …. porcelain? And it’s unclear whether he really caught her eye or whether the cup caught her eye….

They started dating. They drink coffee together. Sometimes a veritable Tower of Babel forms from these piles of cups. Agreement is difficult. And when night comes…. she puts on the mask of night and steals the porcelain, puts it in a bag and escapes by the Milky Way made from the milk previously added to the coffee….

What is the end? Watch the video and see for yourself!
My favourite part of the video and song is the scene with the porcelain monster and yours?

On 25 June, Kolaj Fest New Orleans begins. This is a multi-day festival and symposium dedicated to contemporary collage and its role in art, culture and society. I’m very excited that Thursday’s Collage on screeen event will feature, among other excellent films and animations, the music video for Anna Stela’s song “Black Coffee”; I created the collages for it, and Jagna Firek set them in motion.
Thursday 26 June 2025, 7pm
Cafe Istanbul in New Orleans, 2372 Saint Claude Avenue

Collage on Screen, an eclectic evening of moving images, is part of Kolaj Institute’s Collage in Motion project, which explores collage and the moving image, a broad, loosely defined category that includes animations, film cut-ups, collage film, stop-motion, documentaries about collage artists, and other forms of media in which collage—as medium or genre—is present. This event is open to the public. Admission is $10.
