The exhibition is the aftermath of an artist residency organised by the Kolaj Institute, which brought together 14 collage artists from different countries. They deconstructed Mary Shelley’s iconic novel, combining literature and art to explore timeless themes. The artists explored the role of science and artificial intelligence, queerness, identity, narcissism, among others.
The opening will take place on Thursday, 3 April 2025, SF First Thursday Art Walk, Main Library, 4th floor, Art, Music and Rec Department.
“Collage artists are perfect for bringing vintage texts into the contemporary moment.” – Ric Kasini Kadour, Kolaj Institute Director.
There will also be an online meeting with collage artists: ‘Frankenstein in collage illustration – artists‘ perspectives’. – Saturday 19 April, 10am, Virtual Library.
This exhibit is part of 100 Years of Surrealism celebration.

In November 2024, a special edition of ‘Frankenstein’ was published with collages created during the residency.
